Mobile County Jail Roster

The official county lookup starts with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office Who's in Jail page, which embeds the public current-inmates table. The same table can be opened directly at the MCSO current inmates report. It is a plain report, not a modern search form. The visible columns are NAME, DATE, CHARGES, and BONDS. Because there is no public search box, the most practical method is to use the browser's find tool and search for the last name first.

Mobile County Metro Jail is the central county jail and also serves the City of Mobile. The jail can hold pretrial detainees, people serving county or city sentences, inmates from other approved jurisdictions, federal pretrial or sentenced safekeeping inmates, and state-sentenced inmates waiting for transfer. That mix matters. A Mobile County inmate record may be a local arrest, a city sentence, a probation revocation, a U.S. Marshals safekeeping entry, a DOC hold, or another agency hold. The roster should be read as a custody record, not as the full court file.

Use Mobile County Inmate Records

The current-inmates table is free and public, but it rewards exact reading. Names are listed surname first, bond amounts align to charge lines, and charge text can include prefixes or custody labels that are not explained inside the table. Newly booked people may show first on the MCSO 24-Hour Booking page, while released people may no longer appear on the current list. If the table does not show the person, try the automated jail line before assuming the person is not in custody.

1. Open the MCSO Who's in Jail page or the direct current-inmates table in a browser.
2. Use browser find, often Ctrl-F or Command-F, and search the last name first because names display as LAST, FIRST MIDDLE.
3. Read the full row, including the date, each charge line, and each bond amount. Multiple charges can stack in one row.
4. Check spelling, hyphenated names, aliases, and timing if no match appears. Use the 24-hour booking page for very recent bookings.
5. Call the automated jail information line at 251-574-6412 when an online result is unclear or absent.
6. Use a records request, ADOC, BOP, or ICE when the person is released, transferred, federally held, or in immigration custody.

Deeper jail-management access is not public. The MCSO Jail Portal login states that it provides information on inmates and prisoners in Mobile County Metro Jail, but access is restricted to authorized law-enforcement and judicial agencies. A public reader should not expect that portal to open a fuller jail profile.

Mobile County Roster Fields

The Mobile County jail roster does not ask the public to type search criteria into a county form. It publishes a live table instead. That makes the result columns the working search fields. Use them as clues, then verify critical release or bond details with the jail, the court, or the agency that owns the hold.

Some charge lines need context. USM SAFEKEEPING points toward a federal custody path. SAFEKEEPING (DOC) points toward state custody or transfer. A probation revocation line is a court process, not a new arrest charge by itself. A bond amount of 0 can reflect a hold, a no-bond status, no posted amount, or a non-bondable entry, so the jail table alone should not be used to decide whether someone can be released.

Mobile County Inmate Record Details

The public Mobile County inmate record is narrow. It gives enough to identify a current custody row and start a follow-up, but it leaves out many details that people expect from a full jail profile. The inspected current-inmates table did not show mugshots, booking numbers, date of birth, age, sex, race, height, weight, housing unit, court dates, arresting agency as a separate field, or release status. Mobile County Jail Access Channels

Use more than one access channel when the stakes are high. The MCSO roster is the first check for current county custody, the 24-hour booking page is useful for recent intake, and the jail phone line is the official fallback for a loved one in jail. Records not shown online can be requested through the sheriff or county open-records process. Alabama public-records law supports inspection and copying of public records for Alabama residents, subject to exceptions and records the agency does not have.

Mobile County State Federal Inmates

Mobile County jail custody is not the same as state prison custody. A person held at Mobile County Metro Jail may be waiting for trial, serving a local sentence, or waiting for another agency. After a state sentence and transfer, the Alabama Department of Corrections inmate search becomes the better locator. ADOC searches by AIS number, first name, and last name, and it covers current incarcerated ADOC inmates only. It does not provide historical online data and does not include Youthful Offender Act sentenced inmates.

The ADOC facility inside the county is Mobile Community-Based Facility/Community Work Center in Prichard. It is a state minimum-custody work-release and community work center, not a county jail. People there are searched through ADOC, not the Mobile County jail roster.

Note: Federal pretrial detainees may be physically held at Mobile County Metro Jail even when BOP has no public facility listing yet.

Mobile County Inmate Facilities

The local custody map has three distinct public-facing facilities or facility functions. Mobile County Metro Jail is the main jail and public roster anchor. Mobile Metro Barracks is a minimum-security barracks function within Metro Jail operations. Mobile Community-Based Facility/Community Work Center is operated by ADOC and uses the state locator. Do not treat those three systems as interchangeable.

Mobile County Booking Process

Booking is the jail intake event after arrest. In Mobile County, the practical path is arrest by MCSO, Mobile Police, a municipal police department, federal authorities, or another approved agency, then transport to Metro Jail if the person will be held locally. Intake can include search, property handling, identification, fingerprinting, a booking photo, medical and mental-health screening, classification, wristband ID, and housing placement. The jail handbook says inmates receive wristband IDs at booking and must wear them for commissary, medical care, work details, court appearances, religious services, and release dress-out.

Roster timing is not guaranteed in the research. The current-inmates table is live public custody information, while the 24-hour booking page is a separate feed. Official sources did not state an exact refresh interval or how long released inmates remain visible. If a person was arrested very recently, use the 24-hour booking page and the automated jail line before relying on one missed roster search.

Mobile County Visitation Records

Visitation is tied to custody status, approved visitor lists, and scheduling rules. MCSO says personal visits are video visits, while professional face-to-face visits are limited to clergy, medical, and legal or attorney visitors. Registration and scheduling use GettingOut. Visitors without computer access may register in the Metro Jail lobby during the published registration windows. All visits must be scheduled one day in advance and no more than seven days in advance.

Mobile County Mail Money

Mail and money rules are separate from roster access, but they often confirm which custody system matters. MCSO says ordinary incoming non-privileged mail must be on a metered postcard, rectangular, no larger than 4x6, and sent without postage stamps. Mail should use the inmate's full name and date of birth if known, then Mobile County Metro Jail, P.O. Box 104, Mobile, Alabama 36601. Non-legal mail is opened and inspected before delivery, and padded envelopes are not accepted.
